Hepatitis B virus associated membranous glomerulonephritis

چکیده
The incidence of persistent hepatitis B surface (H13s) antigenaemia was studied in 114 nephrotic children with glomerulonephritis. Twenty five (24 boys) of 28 cases of membranous glomerulonephritis were HBs antigen (HBsAg) carriers. Only 9 of the remaining 86 patients with nephropathies other than membranous glomerulonephritis were HBsAg positive. H:BsAg immune complexes were seen in the sera by electron microscopy. On radioimmunoassay both H13sAg and antibody (anti-HBs), and HBeAg and antibody (anti-HB3e) were often detected concurrently. HBsAg was not shown in the glomerular capillary wall. HBs antigenaemia persisted in 80% of patients after recovery from glomerulonephiitis but remission of the proteinuria correlated well, although not fully, with seroconversion to anti-HBe. The natural history of hepatitis B virus (HB3V) associated glomerulonephritis in childhood is one of slow recovery. A few patients are left with mild asymptomatic proteinuria but progressive renal failure is rare. The 14% incidence of membranous glomerulonephritis in nephrotic children in this area is much higher than that found by the international study of kidney disease in children in well developed countries and is probably related to a high HBV carrier rate. A search for HBV markers should be included in the investigation ofpersistent glomerulonephritis, particularly in countries with a high prevalence of HBV carriers.

Oxidative lesions of DNA in membranous glomerulonephritis associated with the infection with hepatitis B virus
Background The kidneys are known as a target of hepatitis viruses. The renal impairment associated with hepatitis B virus (HBV) could be represented by lesions of glomeruli, or by injury of the renal tubules. Membranous nephropathy is the most common form of glomerulonephritis associated with HBV infection. We aimed to develop a prospective study that evaluated the relation between serum levels...

A 3 year old boy who had chronic active hepatitis type B with features of ongoing liver damage and active virus replication, developed acute membranous glomerulonephritis two years after the clinical onset of liver disease, when both hepatitis B e antigen and antibody were detectable in serum. After withdrawal of short term steroid treatment and resolution of hepatitis B virus replication, both...
متن کاملMembranous Glomerulonephropathy Associated with Hepatitis B Virus Infection
Received August 20, 2007 Abstract The association between hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and the development of nephropathy remains controversial. The chronic carrier state of Hepatitis B Virus leads to the development of glomerulonephropathy, the commonest histological type being membranous nephropathy (MN), particularly in children. Other types of glomerulonephritis associated with HBV inf...

Hepatitis C virus infection has been associated with a variety of extrahepatic disorders. We report four patients with membranous glomerulonephritis and hepatitis C virus infection. In contrast to patients previously reported with HCV infection and membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis, these patients have normal or minimally reduced complement levels and no evidence of rheumatoid factor or ...
متن کاملClinical and pathological considerations on renal diseases in patients with chronic viral hepatitis.
Chronic viral hepatitis B and C may associate different extrahepatic manifestations and renal disease is the most frequent. Kidney damage is represented in most cases by glomerulopathies, which include membranous nephropathy, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN), IgA nephropathy, focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis and diabetic nephropathy. We conducted a retrospective study on 63...
